Anyone who has followed these pages for the last – well, close to 2 year now – will now know I’m total sucker for his stuff.

The aching, the yearning, the urban solitude, the decay….you can just go on, and I’m quite possibly just an urban, decaying romantic at heart!

Nevertheless – “Street Halo EP” is a PIECE – an utterly brilliant snapshot of Burial’s forthcoming long player!

The real surprise here is the main title track, which heads off on a Dub-Tech tip set for larger, pounding rooms with only the “The Headz” left at 5.AM when the tourist have gone home.

With his trademark grainy, aching feeling set over a 4/4 inspired groove Burial proves – again – he knows his powers inside out and the strength of good, heart melting song.

Hear this on a super large system, and you will sway – promise!

Utterly brilliant!

Somehow it never got under my skin, and I suppose it would always be difficult to come out from the shadow of “Blind”, which is still one of the greatest House tracks written.

“My House” continues on a theme, and Jonathan Butler’s fascination of NYC House, and with Tensnake at the controls there is a hefty rewind’n'reload to early 90′s warehouse classics.

I smell Sterling Void and even a kind nod to The Orb and Sun Electric’s classic “O’Locco”!

The result has its own charm in cool classic kind of way!

I’ve been neglecting you – it’s been ages since I last penned anything on these pixels.

Sometimes you need to step back, focus on other stuff, let the music play and come back – hopefully fitter, better, stronger, wiser and perhaps with a rejuvenated love for music!

Work got the better of me, and the love for electronic music somehow sidestepped massively for a while.

To be quite honest: It all sounded/sounds the same idiotic nonsense where 80% start their productions with a 4/4 kick………….hmm – that’s very imaginative – people!

The loss of a very dear DJ colleague for 20 years didn’t help much either!

We weren’t friends par sé but colleagues, and have worked together consistently over the course of 20 years.

It feels indeed very, very strange to say goodbye to someone who is 4 years minor yourself.

Someone who checked in for a simple routine examination for a weak heart, and just never woke up again!!

Makes you think that years of nightlife, DJ’ing, booze, drugs, late hours, wrong nutrition, obesity and in general not looking after yourself very much comes at an extremely high price at the tender age of only 45!

45! – stop there for a second!

Realisticly – we may burn the candle at both ends during the 20/30′s – it’s where you find yourself, but when you reach the 40′s it’s when you somehow feel rounded – it’s where you’re supposed to start life for real!

So – on a completely different note – someone who has experienced life, and to a large degree understands the value of it, is a long regular on these pixels: William Fitzsimmons.

Having just released his gorgeous “Gold In The Shadow” album he once again shows that songwriting is indeed a craft you just can’t produce yourself out of through electronic gadgets – either you have it or you don’t!

This beautiful “The Tide Pulls from The Moon” is a stunning example of the craftmanship at hand.

Another cut which sticks out a mile in the recent Pearson & Weatherall back-to-back mix – The Phenomenal Handclap Band and “Tears” re-tweaked by NYC producers The Stallions.

A huge Tribalistic, percussive driven Indie wobbler, which reeks heavily of being dropped by Weatherall, with large spangling slide-guitars, Indie vocals and a massive Cosmic vibe you can put in your pipe and smoke.

It’s Leftfield like Hell, but is a total nuclear bomb to drop when timed right.

It surfaced in 2010, but – again – timeless stuff!

You can find it on Ewan’s Soundcloud page, and – of course – it’s stacked three storeys high with just ridiculous, brilliant tracks mixed into each other exquisitely – like only they can!

So – the next couple of posts will be a selection of tracks lifted from that mix for the very reason they get my juices flowing.

Enter M and “Pop Muzik” which by its mere mention should have everyone heading for the hills, but being touched by the hand of Todd Terje in 2009 it suddenly became something way more spectacular.

In all honesty this version is so much more than just a remix – it’s a complete reconstruction, which keeps you firmly on your toes through its 9’52″ mins of genius.

Afraid of spoiling the surprises I’ll refrain from digging any deeper into how this evolves, and instead will just point you in the direction of your volume knob.

Turn this one WAY  UP to the far South East, stand clear and just soak it up.

It was massive when it appeared first time, and being a timeless reconstruction it sound fresh a babies buttom.

Like this trouser-blazing Dr. Dunks rework of Canyons and “My Rescue”!

Clocking in at 10’24″ mins. it’s equally Cosmic and roof-raising Disco at one and the same time.

It surfaced last year, but a good track is always a good track!

It’s not that I’ve been upset, heartbroken or the cat left me – I suppose all of us just have to get in touch with ourselves from time to time – but enough is enough!

Time to light the woodwork, and what better way to start than with this CVLT remix of Coupons and “Driving To Your House Party”!

If you think the title itself rings a bell towards “Daft Punk Is Playing At My House”, well you’re forgiven, and sonically we’re not too far off the DFA wet patch – except Mr. CVLT drives a way harder bargain!

Building his structure around a tough bassline pattern, sitting dangerously close to Laurent Garnier’s “Crispy Bacon”, procedings quickly evolve into a Moroder-esque, piano-driven, Disco-Tech-laden night drive to Dead Man’s Curve!

I have no idea what the original sounds like, and quite frankly I don’t even care – this will do just fine me and my marbles – with its dripping touches of 303 sprinkled gently on top!

Get on this – it’s firing hot and Giorgio and James would be proud!

Rightfully there is a lot of hoo-hah going on over Jamie Woon dropping his forthcoming album – “Mirrorwriting” – come April, and I for one is definitely excited.

I’m not entirely sure about the canoe-thing video floating around at the moment of – “Lady Luck” – and much prefer this Original from said album.

Some might argue “Lady Luck” is bordering dangerously close on Jamie doing a Craig David, and heading straight for day-time radio, but – hey – the man’s got to make a living – people!

As much as I’d love him lurking in the murky corners of Brixton, dressed in black hoody and Burial in hand, it’s not where you earn big bucks – unfortunately!

Still – “Lady Luck” – is fine little ditty as a taster of hopefully something a little deeper and darker – thank you!
